You can buy longer rentention periods if you want (up to infinite) for additional monthly fees. Keep in mind though that it is more of a syncing backup system, with a 30-day deleted-file retention period (meaning you can recover files you've deleted or lost for up to 30 days by default before they are also removed from the system). Backblaze is probably the best value I've found so far. For this reason, I set up a specific computer to act as a "NAS" that houses all of my data (photos and other personal files) that syncs to Backblaze (they were fomerly CrashPlan until CrashPlan spun off a section of it's business into Backblaze). Nice thing over some of the rivals is I can back up as many hard drives (as long as they are attached to the computer that is being backed up - can be internal or external drives) for the same price. Unlimited storage for (I think) $7 per month. I've been using Backblaze for a few years now. I’m sure it can be done but I’m not that patient.Ĭurrently I back up my photographs on 2 external hard drives, but I have been thinking that cloud storage would be a good addition. I can’t imagine recovering a full 2TB system from a cloud service. For catastrophic backup recovery, I use several external hard drives. The seamless ease of all devices in sync is very valuable to me.įinally, I use iCloud for DATA storage (backup) only. I’m a Mac user (iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini) so iCloud is my choice even if the price is a little steeper. You can think any iCloud storage is an extension to your local drive. MOST of the time the files you need are local……basically, my MBP behaved like I had a 700gb SSD drive. ![]() You do need to be connected to network for this to work. Because it stores originals on iCloud and your system only stores a copy it dynamically allocates files on your local drive based on how you frequently access them. I had a MacBook Pro with 500gb SSD drive plus 200Gb iCloud option. and “COPY” your files to the iCloud.Īnother feature of implementation of iCloud that blew me away. Once you have an iCloud Drive set up you can create any folder such as My Photos, My Movies, etc. Joe, that is true for iCloud for your Desktop and Document folders PLUS other App data as you define like Photos, Email, Messages etc.
